The Crusaders passed their first major test of the young season this past weekend at the Lion’s Den tournament hosted by Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton. KVHS finished the weekend 3-2 and for the second straight season with our two loses coming at the hands of Auburn Drive from Dartmouth Nova Scotia. Once in the round robin and again in the championship game. Our three wins came against Carleton North (80-59), Horton High School from Wolfville, NS (75-67) and Prince Andrew High School from Dartmouth, NS (88-76).

It was great to get some quality wins against some top caliber teams but the best part of the weekend was seeing a championship culture starting to emerge. Things that were consistent from game-to-game were:

  • Players on the floor or on the bench supporting each other , giving energy to the group
  • Toughness…first to the floor for loose balls, taking charges, setting screens, running the floor, etc.
  • Players improving

This was just beginning of a very busy five week stretch but if the opening weekend is any indication, this is going to be a fun team to watch and it looks like we’re well positioned to make another deep post season run.
