This weekend marks the unofficial end of the summer season, at least for me. The Blue Storm U16 are off to the Lakers Summer Tournament in Harvey today. This tournament is being organized by the coaches of Harvey High School’s varsity program to raise money to help purchase a new team bus.

Our round robin games today and tomorrow are:

  • 2:30 pm (Sat) vs Harvey
  • 5:30 pm (Sat) vs Sugarloaf
  • 12:00 pm (Sun) vs Devon Park

The Championship game is at 1:30 pm on Sunday for the teams that finish with the two best records. This should be a good test for the boys as everything we’ve done this summer has included our grade 12’s. Not having Jared Corless or Matt Costello on the boards will put a lot of pressure on some of our young guys to step up.

I don’t know the rosters of the Harvey or Sugarloaf teams but they’re two of the better AA programs and Thomas Murphy of Harvey has participated in BNB Summer Program before so we can’t take them lightly at all. As for Devon Park (aka Fredericton North) they should be the team to beat. Based on the roster they have had at various events throughout the summer, they’ll have several current and former BNB Provincial team players including Ritchie Wilkens (2009 U16), Josh LeFluer (2009 U17), Brandan Meikle (2009 U15D), Matt Harrington (2009 U15D), Sam Goucher (2008 U15D) plus a number of other solid players from LHHS and DPCS.

It will also be tough day for three of the Blue Storm as they have been attending UNB’s invitational camp the last three days. Jarred Crawford (grade 11), Erik Nissen (grade 9) and Nathan d’Entremont (grade 9) have been working out under the guidance of UNB’s Men’s head coach Brent Baker since Thursday finishing up at noon today.
