In a must-win game for the Crusaders, the home team put together one of their most complete games of the season by defeating Rothesay High Redhawks 87-75.

It was senior night at KVHS but it was two underclassmen that stole the spotlight. For the third straight game, Brady Soucy came out firing from deep, hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter. His backcourt teammate, Keegan Miller, joined the party, hitting two of his own, giving KVHS a 19-14 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, Rothesay was able to cool off the Crusaders’ perimeter shooters but that opened the middle for Colin Loughery who scored 13 points in the quarter which help extend the home team’s lead to 41-31 at the half.

The Redhawks, as expected, started the 2nd half with a renewed energy on defense and started pounding the ball inside to their big men. Brady Soucy, however, was having one of those nights. Just when it looked like Rothesay had solved the Crusaders, Brady would drain a long-range jumper, hitting 4 more in the 3rd quarter including a bank shot as the shot clock was expiring. When the dust settled after 30 minutes the Crusaders were still ahead by nine, 65-56.

In the final quarter, Ken Daily and Jamie McNamee were an explosive 1-2 punch for the Redhawks with Ken scoring tough buckets in the paint and Jamie making the defense pay from deep on some bad rotations. The Crusaders, however, responded with a total team effort over the last 10 minutes. Miller and Soucy added a couple of long-range bombs, while Dallen MacDougall hit a clutch three as the shot clock was expiring. Dallen then followed that up with a steal that Colin Loughery converted into two points to end Rothesay’s final push.

The Crusaders’ leaders were:

  • Colin Loughery with 28 points, 20 rebounds and 8 assists
  • Brady Soucy with 25 points
  • Keegan Miller with 23 points

Rothesay leaders were:

  • Ken Daley with 24 points
  • Jack Hovey, Jamie McNamee & Thomas MacDonald with 14 each

The Crusaders finish the regular season with an 8-4 record. They now wait to see if they qualify for post-season play. Crusaders need Harbour View to lose their remaining game in order to qualify.

Record-Setting Career

Thursday was just another typical night for the Crusader’s blue-collar star. Twenty points. Twenty rebounds. Throw in a few assists, a couple of key three-pointers, and of course, a rebound that brings the Crusaders bench to their feet, saying “I’m glad he’s on my team”.

Colin Loughery finishes his career with 1103 points (14th all-time), 1075 rebounds (1st all-time) making him the only player in school history with 1000 points and 1000 rebounds. He also has 217 assists (3rd all-time), holds the top three spots for rebounds per game for a single season, and the record for most rebounds in a single season (413).
